With only a few weeks left before the Ontario Karting season gets underway, GreenSpeed Karting has been busy actively building its driver roster for the 2009 season. The most recent additions to the team will expand not only the team numbers but also the classes that GreenSpeed will contest in 2009.
Stoufville kart pilot Ryan Horses will join GreenSpeed this year as he competes in the BSRKC ICC class and possibly Senior Rotax. Ryan is no stranger to racing with seat time in both karts and cars. With plans on taking a serious run at the BSRKC ICC championship in 2009, Ryan is anxious to get on track for our team testing day in April in preparation for the BSRKC Round 1 event at Sutton, May 22-24, 2009.
GreenSpeed Karting is also excited to have DD2 champion Darren White joining the team for the 2009 season. Darren with see double duty in both DD2 and Senior Rotax. Currently the reigning Canadian National DD2 Champion and Florida Winter Tour DD2 Champion, Darren is setting his sights this season on improving his placing at the World Finals when he travels to Egypt later this year. Darren has already done some testing in the new TonyKart DD2 chassis while in Ocala earlier this season. In that test session Darren equaled the previous days fastest lap time literally within a few sessions on the track, and with a less than ideal set-up. Darren is very excited about the upcoming season based on his TonyKart test in Ocala.
“We are obviously thrilled about having Ryan and Darren join the Race Team for 2009”, noted team owner Mike Morrison. “What we set out to accomplish in September has definitely been exceeded as we get set to field a team of 7 first class drivers…many of them champions. With up to 15 class entries for BSRKC events as well as some travelling club dates for the team, and even a few trips to the Quebec Regional’s – we have very high expectations for the 2009 season in every class contested. The new 2009 TonyKarts are already asserting themselves as the dominant chassis again this season with several championships in this year’s Florida Winter Tour already in the books, as well as very solid performances in the opening round of the Rotax Euro Challenge (where TonyKart had a clean sweep with an all Green podium in Senior Max, as well as the Race winner in Juinor Max)”.
GreenSpeed is putting the finishing touches one some championship prizes up for grabs for both drivers and tuners this season, to ensure tremendous focus remains on our key mandate. That mandate is to run the most professional kart racing team in Ontario, focusing on and valuing teamwork both on and off the track, and striving for the absolute best results we can achieve every weekend, for every driver.
