Although off the track Jonathon Treadwell doesn’t say a whole lot – On the track he has one of the loudest voices in Karting. In 2009 the Huntsville teen became one of the winningest drivers in the BSRKC series when he secured a remarkable 5th Stewart Cup, by taking the Brian Stewart Senior Light Championship in commanding fashion with 4 podiums in 6 starts including 3 wins.
One of the original GreenSpeed drivers, Jonathon has accomplished some incredible things aboard his Tony Kart Psylo and Racer EVR chassis. Supported by his tuner and Father James, solid race power from Ted Greenwood / TXM Racing Engines and long time mentor Marc Stehle, Jonathon won both the BSRKC Junior Heavy and Junior Rotax Championships in 2006. Jon repeated again in 2007 as double champion in the same two classes and for the second straight year. 2009 was a continuation of Jon’s long and consistent reign as one of the top junior and now senior racers in Ontario.
“Taking the first win at Sutton was great way to start off the series” noted Jon. “I was able to get the points lead right out of event one and hold that lead all season long. The Tony Kart chassis is very tuneable to a variety of racing situations and track conditions. We had everything set-up just right all year and that allowed me to stay out of trouble and contend up front every weekend, regardless of what track or weather conditions we had to contend with”.
GreenSpeed team owner Mike Morrison recalls Jon’s presence both on and off the track and the dedication and commitment he applied to his racing pursuits.

“I only met the Treadwell’s for the first time this season”, noted GreenSpeed team owner Mike Morrison. “I recall being impressed with Jon’s professionalism and quiet but confident demeanor. Jon is not the type of kid to boast or act cocky, preferring to make his statements from underneath the visor. Jon certainly didn’t race with the biggest budget. He is a great example and role model for what hard work and determination can accomplish, and he is a great ambassador for the team and the sport”, cited Morrison.
Adding to his Karting accomplishments this season, Jon was also selected for the Hinchtown.com Driver Shootout that took place at Mosport earlier this season and was also crowned as the Simcoe Kart Club’s Senior Light Champion in 2009. The Hinchtown.com shootout was an important experience for Jon, as the aspiring driver has already had some seat time racing TQ Midgets in the Can-Am Midget Challenge series and has his sights set on doing more in cars in 2010.
Jon is always quick to acknowledge his teammates and the support he has received, but Jon and his family were also very quick to lend a hand wherever they could to their teammates as well. In 2009, Jon and James along with Ted Greenwood provided a lot of support to new Tony Kart driver Trevor Rancier, who made his debut in Rotax Mini-Max. Although a technical infraction (the wrong battery mount bracket) cost Rancier the BSRKC Mini-Max championship and a Bear at Shannonville – there was no question that Rancier was on pace for a rookie championship in the class thanks to some great driving and the support of his GreenSpeed teammates.
The 16 year old Treadwell (who actually turns 17 this week) is already looking ahead to the 2010 season and whether its karts or cars...or both, we expect to see Jon use his racing talents to continue his very successful motorsports career.
