After taking some time over the past few months to respond to over 40 driver applications, GreenSpeed karting is pleased to announce several significant team developments for 2009. Although we had planned to make some of these announcements sooner, the current Ontario karting scene has presented some different options for drivers in 2009 and our discussions with many drivers were stalled as they weighed their choices for the upcoming season. But good things come to those who wait.
First and foremost, GreenSpeed Karting is thrilled to announce the addition of Mike Roth to the GreenSpeed Team. Working alongside Aaron de Heus, Mike will be providing race day tuning support to our team drivers under the tent and in partnership with Aaron, this duo will provide an incredibly strong tuning and coaching package based on their respective tenures in racing. Mike Roth is certainly no stranger to karting and his accomplishments are more than well documented.
“When I learned recently that Mike was available, I was quick to approach him on the concept of working with our team”, exclaimed Morrison. I’ve said form the very beginning that our team concept was built around putting our drivers at the centre of everything we do. Securing Mike was another way for GreenSpeed to put an exclamation mark on that commitment”. Mike Roth was equally excited about the possibility of working with Morrison, De hues and GreenSpeed team.
“Aaron De Heus and I have a long term friendship in karting and I’m very excited to be working with Aaron, Mike, and the entire GreenSpeed team in 2009” said Roth. “Along with TonyKart’s proven record, the GreenSpeed concept is something that I am very excited about. As a tuner and driver coach for team members I will be able to work on the development of drivers and be a part of what will quickly become one of the most professional karting teams in Ontario. I feel lucky to be a part of the sport I love and I’m looking forward to the 2009 season.”
GreenSpeed is also very excited to announce the addition of Melissa Curran to the team for 2009. Melissa is a household name in Ontario karting, and both Melissa and her father Mike are firmly on board with the team concept. “After spending some time with Mike over email, the phone and in person, we both realized that we have the same approach and expectations”, noted Morrison. “I knew the Currans would be easy to work with and I also know they have high expectations for 2009 – we’re ready to step up to those expectations and are thrilled they chose GreenSpeed.”
In other exciting developments, GreenSpeed Karting is also very pleased to confirm Jonathon Treadwell, Justine Treadwell and Marc Stehle’s return to TonyKart. One only needs to search the ekn website PR’s to see the long list of accomplishments these drivers have achieved on a Tony – and the fact that they are all returning to race green in 2009, demonstrates their commitment not only to the product, but to the new team ownership structure. Morrison notes, “I’m thrilled they are all back with us this season and I look forward to seeing all of them continue to achieve success in 2009”.
Last but certainly not least…In the spirit of giving back to the karting community as Morrison has done in the past as a sponsor and also board member of the TKC – GreenSpeed is thrilled to announce that it has signed on to be the title sponsor for the BSRKC Race at Waterloo this season and is also finalizing arrangements to support TRAK as a race day sponsor. “We owe a lot to these organizations and their members for the great experience we’ve had in our first two years in the sport as racers. It’s only natural that our support goes back to these two series”, commented Morrison.
“Overall, I am very excited about the team that is coming together and truly feel like we all have a common understanding and will work well together in 2009” said Morrison. “With over ten class entries I’m confident we will see Green suits crowding the podium frequently in 2009”.
As mentioned in recent press releases, the team has also had a busy winter with its involvement in the 2009 Florida Winter Tour working in partnership with the Florida based Ocala Gran Prix TonyKart team. Junior team driver Cameron Morrison has had an excellent start in the Mini Max class with strong support from Curtis Fox, and Aaron De heus has also seen early success working for Rotax Senior, and KF2 pilot Victor Pedrosa. Aaron has had the opportunity to work alongside the OGP TonyKart team and gain additional insight from their years of running Tony. “It has been a great experience working with this team over the winter months and we expect to bring home some tremendously valuable insight for our Ontario team drivers in 2009.” asserted Morrison.
Stay tuned for more updates after the 2nd round of the Florida Winter Tour, and for additional driver announcements that we expect to make before the karts hit the track this spring. For more information about GreenSpeed and becoming a team driver, please visit www.greenspeedkarting.com.
