Ontario’s newest karting entity will make its debut this weekend as Cameron Morrison takes to the track driving for GreenSpeed Karting / TonyKart. In the first of three rounds, Morrison will be just outside Homestead-Miami Speedway for a pair of starts racing in the Mini-Max class of the Florida Winter Tour Rotax Max Challenge of the Americas.

“I’m super excited about the season ahead,” Morrison said prior to departing this week. “Based on the registered drivers in both Ontario Junior Heavy and Junior Rotax, it looks like I will again be one of the youngest drivers, but that didn’t hurt me last season. It’ll only make me better!” Entering his third year of karting, the 12-year-old from Pickering, Ontario, will be making his second trip to Florida after running the final round last year at Ocala. It was his first taste of the Mini-Max class, one which he gained a solid command of during the summer season and will return to in Florida due to his birth date and international rules.

After beginning his career and taking the Toronto Kart Club Novice Championship as a rookie two years ago, Morrison expanded into Regional racing last summer and won the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship Junior Light Class. Two-stroke racing also went well as he earned vice-champion status in a trio of Championships: Toronto Kart Club, Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship and the Ontario Regional Karting Championship. Morrison is looking to make 2009 his best season yet and said he believes the transition to TonyKart will be seemless. “In the last two seasons I have been on a CRG, Righetti Ridolfi and Intrepid,” he said in a quick chassis review. “I’ve always been a quick study, getting up to speed quickly, and I’m looking for more of the same with TonyKart beginning this weekend.”

Restructured in the late Fall of 2008, GreenSpeed Karting / TonyKart will have only one driver in the seat at the opening round, but another team member will be in the Florida sun as Director of Racing Operations Aaron de Heus will be tuning for Ocala Gran Prix in Rotax Senior. GreenSpeed will pit alongside OGP, as de Heus looks to add to a knowledge base borne from eighteen years in the sport. A six-time Ontario Provincial Champion and three-time Canadian National Champion, de Heus has made it his mandate to be fully prepared to lead when the full GreenSpeed Karting / TonyKart lineup hits the track in Ontario this May.
