GreenSpeed Karting Rides Season One Success, Bulks up for Season Two

With the opening of regional racing action in Ontario set to officially get underway in just under 10 days, GreenSpeed Karting has been active all winter long as it continues to differentiate on the strength of its racing program.

Heading south earlier this season with two new drivers aboard, the team continued to show some great speed amidst some misfortune. Austin Milwain and Cameron Morrison picked up right where they left off in 2009 emerging after the 2nd round of the FWT as the top two Ontario Juniors. Morrison was sidelined for round three of the FWT with a badly broken arm, while Milwain also had to take a pass on race 5 in the final round battling a nasty flu bug that bit the team hard in Ocala. Milwain still emerged as the top Ontario Junior from the tour finishing 7th overall, and the pair were clearly the Ontario drivers to beat all series long. Darren White and DD2 teammate Eric Gerrits both saw their share of ups and down throughout the tour as well but both managed to climb the podium in FWT action and the pair also finished well inside the top ten overall with Gerrits 6th and White 7th.

In its inaugural year in 2009 under new leadership GreenSpeed Karting couldn’t have asked for a better debut. Among its many accomplishments the team secured 2 BSRKC Championships, 1 BSRKC Vice-Championship, 2 BSRKC 3rd place finishes, as well as a 1st and two 5ths and top Junior rookie honours in the eKartingnews.ca Canadian Driver Rankings. The team also secured at least one pole in every single BSRKC rotax class it contested.

"There is no doubt in my mind that people are really starting to take this team seriously," commented team owner Mike Morrison. "One thing we have consistently done is stay focused on what we set out to accomplish, and never strayed from that plan. We charge more for our overall package than most other teams do, and yet drivers who have been offered better deals elsewhere still choose to race with us. We think winning is a great deal too."

Reflecting on the practices that make any businesses successful, Morrison subscribes to the basics around understanding your market and your customers, and understanding where you fit in. "There are customers who will buy on price, customers who will buy on quality, and customers who will buy on service. Few companies are successful at delivering all three. Mercedes Benz still sells cars even thought there are cheaper cars to be had. They cater to a market that values Quality and Service over price, and because of it, they understand they won’t sell a car to everyone that’s in the market. I think that’s our segment as well."
