After a short holiday break to reflect with family and friends, GreenSpeed Karting will quickly get down to business in January, making its first stop of the 2010 season at the FWT Rotax Series opener in Orlando, Florida January 14th-17th. Hot off the heels of a very successful 2009 campaign where 5 drivers (White, Horses, Treadwell, Morrison and Rancier) have all secured trips to the BSRKC banquet trophy table in January, the GreenSpeed Race Team carries a lot of momentum and confidence with it into Orlando.

“We have removed a lot of the unknowns going into 2010”, notes team owner Mike Morrison. “Last year we were a new group of people that were just coming together as a team, we were all new to the Tony Kart chassis, and several of our drivers were rookies in their respective classes”, reflects Morrison. We learned a lot about the chassis, bonded quickly as a team, and in 2010 – every driver has at least a season of experience in the classes they will contest.
For the upcoming season the team has put an exclamation mark on its commitment to its drivers and to winning, by protecting and building upon the things that worked well. The most noteworthy development for the team was the hiring of Mike Roth full time as the teams lead Tuner and Team Operations Manager. Roth earned a lot of credibility and respect from team drivers and parents alike this past season and it only made sense to give him a more prominent role with the team. A well rounded person, Mike is as comfortable with a wrench as he is with a PC, and a stopwatch and he has done a very nice job in helping tune our drivers for speed, coach them for success, and run team operations since he took over in December.
Since closing out 2009 GreenSpeed’s Official Race Team has morphed into a 2-cycle only squad that will focus on the BSRKC series, Quebec Regional series and select Rotax Pan America series races in New Jersey and Newcastle, in addition to the FWT action. The team has also been in discussion with a select few new drivers for the 2010 season and with the potential to be 7 strong for 2010, team owner Morrison remains focused on quality vs quantity.
“I think what attracts certain drivers and parents to our team is the fact that we are small and can provide the close support and coaching that our customers are looking for”, notes Morrison. “We have a focused team and that’s the way I’d like to see it stay. Our goal is to create the best possible odds for all our drivers to succeed through tuning, coaching, and support. It’s exactly what allowed us to be so successful in 2009.”
The team will field 4 drivers for the FWT series and 7 drivers in total in Ontario next season. The Florida Winter Tour line-up for Orlando will Include: Darren White Rotax DD2 Eric Gerrits Rotax DD2 Cameron Morrison Rotax Junior Austin Milwain Rotax Junior
While Eric Gerrits and his father Rick are already drinking Green Kool-Aid, as full fledged members of the Green Machine for 2010, Milwain is conducting a test weekend with GreenSpeed at Orlando, looking to assess options for the 2010 season. With this strong quartet, the team really likes their chances to impress among the international field of drivers that will descend on Orlando in a week’s time. The series always produces some fantastic racing and it’s an awesome time to shine on a North American stage. The line up of drivers will be supported by Mike Roth, Leonard Darrigo and Mike Morrison with additional support from Rick Gerrits. The team has invested over a month or preparation time to be ready for this event, including time with SH Karting in Quebec early in December to fine tune its engine program for the tour.
Happy New Year to all and here’s wishing you a fast 2010, from the Team at GreenSpeed Karting
