Windsor Karting Grand Prix
September 1-2, 2007
Temporary Street Course
Downtown Windsor, ON
Windsor, ON - This past weekend, many drivers from team Green Speed attended the Windsor Karting Grand Prix in downtown Windsor, Ontario. Continuing Green Speed's dominance in the Rotax Jr division was SRFKC race #5 winner Jonathon Treadwell. Treadwell brought his broom that he used to sweep the field in Mosport to Windsor where he swept all four classes he entered including setting one of the fastest laps of the weekend even though he was a junior. Also bringing a win home for Green Speed was Joe Reia in the Masters class.
Running under the Green Speed banner for the weekend were: Treadwell in Jr Heavy and Jr Rotax, Reia in Masters and TaG Sr, Marc Stehle in Sr Honda, and Justine Treadwell and Selena Ujj in Jr Heavy. As mentioned, Jonathon Treadwell swept all four races entered as well as three pole positions being only hundredths of a second off the final pole. Never finishing outside the top five all weekend in the four classes Joe Reia entered showed that he will be a threat for the win very soon in TaG action as well being very dominant in the Masters class where Reia finished fifth on Saturday after taking the pole and winning on Sunday. Returning to action in Sr Honda, Marc Stehle had a rough outing on Saturday finishing seventh. However on Sunday, Stehle was running second right on the bumper of eventual winner Greg Rempel setting up a last lap pass for the win, unfortunatly the last lap sign was never shown as the race was cut three laps short after an incident in turn four brought out the red flag leaving Stehle to settle for second.
The other two Green Speed drivers, Justine Treadwell and Selena Ujj both drove excellent races in the Jr. Heavy class. On Saturday both Ujj and Justine Treadwell were involved in a five kart battle for third position. As the checkered flew, Treadwell finished fourth and Ujj seventh. On Sunday, it was much of the same as both drivers were involved in the five kart battle for third. After starting outside pole Justine Treadwell was pinched into the hay bales exiting turn one resulting in her falling back to eighth position. But choosing not to give up, she drove her way back to the front of the group to third place before an unfortunate accident ended her race early. While passing a lap kart entering turn four, she lost control of her kart and heavily slammed into the outside wall. Justine was taken to hospital for safety precautions and was released shortly after with a concussion. Returning to the track after the final trophy presentations with a smile on face was a sigh of relief for her team members. Not to forget about Ujj, she was right in the middle of the five kart battle for third and would end up fourth as the red flag appeared.
Next up for team Green Speed are both the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championships and the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship finales. Both fall on the September 14 to 16 weekends. The BSRKC will be held downtown Toronto at Downsview Park and the SRFKC race will be held at Goodwood Kartways.
